A handsome Victorian mahogany boot stand, the circular revolving rack with eight shaped openings, raised on an elegantly turned central column terminating in an urn finial. The moulded circular base is supported by three scrolling feet.
Originally intended for the storage of riding boots, such stands were a feature of the entrance halls and dressing rooms of nineteenth-century country houses. This example retains its attractive reddish-brown patina and offers considerable decorative appeal.
English, circa 1850–1880.
Dimensions: 93.5 cm high × 42 cm diameter at rack; base 28 cm diameter, excluding feet.
