Opening to a fitted interior with three small drawers and a writing surface, the bureau is raised on slender cabriole legs with gilt-metal mounts to the knees and sabots to the feet.
The serpentine form, floral marquetry and gilt-metal embellishment are characteristic of the late 19th-century revival of Louis XV furniture, particularly the small-scale writing tables and bureaux produced for fashionable domestic interiors. Its compact proportions make it suitable as a writing desk, dressing table or occasional piece.
In good antique condition, retaining an attractive aged surface with wear, marks and minor imperfections consistent with age and use. The writing surface appears to have been renewed at some stage.
