The moulded rectangular top is set above a broad frieze decorated with contrasting line inlay and banding, with a fine rope-twist moulding beneath. A single glazed door framed by figured walnut pilasters opens to an interior lined in red velvet corduroy and fitted with two shelves.
The combination of figured walnut, restrained inlay and glazed display space is characteristic of late Victorian cabinet furniture, with the compact proportions lending the piece equally to books, glassware or collected objects.
The cabinet has been sympathetically restored, waxed and polished and is structurally sound. Historic veneer losses, surface variation and other minor imperfections have been retained as part of the established character of the piece.
