A George III Mahogany Writing Desk, c. 1810

$995.00

A late George III mahogany writing desk of unusually compact proportions, the hinged sloping lid opening to reveal a fitted interior of pigeonholes and three small drawers beneath shaped Gothic-style valances. The exterior is simply detailed with fine stringing and crossbanding, with a single frieze drawer below and raised on four slender square-section legs.

In good antique condition, with considerable surface patina, marks, scratches, staining and wear consistent with more than two centuries of use. The interior retains particularly pleasing evidence of age and use. Minor losses and irregularities are present throughout and form part of the character of the piece.

English, late George III, circa 1810.

Dimensions: 93H × 59W × 50D cm.
