The shaped fall front is veneered in figured timber and decorated with a finely inlaid floral spray, enclosed by restrained line inlay. Opening to a fitted interior with three small drawers and a writing surface, the bureau is raised on slender cabriole legs with gilt-metal mounts to the knees and sabots to the feet.
The serpentine form, floral marquetry and gilt-metal embellishment are characteristic of the late 19th-century revival of Louis XV furniture, particularly the small-scale writing tables and bureaux produced for fashionable domestic interiors. Its compact proportions make it suitable as a writing desk, dressing table or occasional piece.
In good antique condition, retaining an attractive aged surface with wear, marks and minor imperfections consistent with age and use. The writing surface appears to have been renewed at some stage.

New Arrivals
A handsome mid-19th century commode veneered in richly figured mahogany and fitted with four full-width drawers. The drawer fronts are arranged with striking bookmatched veneers, with further figured mahogany to the top, stiles and plinth. Each drawer is centred by a small brass escutcheon, the whole raised on turned bun feet.
The surface has been lightly and sympathetically restored, retaining the original character and expected signs of age. There are scattered marks, scratches and minor edge wear, including historic wear to the top, consistent with age and use. The mahogany presents with a warm, lustrous colour and attractive variation throughout.

We source antiques both locally and internationally, using techniques employed by archaeologists and historians to identify, date and assess our acquisitions.
Every item is carefully inspected for wear and damage. Where necessary, pieces are restored in-house to address imperfections while preserving their original character.

Antique beds rarely fit modern mattress sizes. Finding matching bedside tables or dining chairs can be difficult. Larger pieces, designed for grander homes of another era, can also present practical challenges.
To address this, Éditeur offers a small collection of bespoke, made-to-order pieces inspired by Neoclassical and Biedermeier design. These are handcrafted from solid mahogany using traditional methods, allowing timeless forms to be adapted for contemporary homes while retaining the integrity and craftsmanship of the originals.
